FOURTH PIECE

For those of you that are just now joining in on the fun, a little over a month ago, I asked you to help me decide on a painting to hang on an empty wall next to my fireplace in my den. This wall has been blank since we moved in almost 7 years ago. I think it is high time to change that, don't you?

I am teaming up with Whit Geary @VIEWGALLERY, my Instagram followers, and the Gatherings girls to help me finally decide on the perfect piece. Before each Gatherings, I am hanging a different piece in hopes to get your feedback. So, let me introduce you to the next artist in this little experiment of mine.

FOURTH PIECE | Paul Edelstein

Paul Edelstein resides in Memphis, TN. He was educated at Christian Brothers University and The University of Memphis. He also studied privately under Marjorie Liebman. Paul’s work has been seen in the movie “The Firm” and has been shown in many designer magazines such as “Elle”. His work can be found in galleries from Oxford, Mississippi, to Damascus, Syria. He painted interior murals for the restaurant “Waltz on the Square” in Oxford, Mississippi, “Cafe Eclectic” on McLean Boulevard in Memphis, TN, and recently a 30-foot mural at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN. His work is highly collectible and continues to gain popularity.

“(Painting) is a process,” said Edelstein. “I do it in layers upon layers and all of a sudden, it’s finished. I might work on several paintings at one time.”

He has become one of Memphis’ best-known artists, particularly for his signature style “figurative abstract”, in which faint silhouettes of people overlap like a congregation or gathering of people. Much of Edelstein’s work is done in the warm palette with shades of amber, crimson, and milk chocolate brown in the background topped by contrast in bright blues, greens, yellows and pinks.

“I am inspired by the hidden stories told by the Southern landscape. The narratives depicted in my paintings are found in the kudzu covering the South. The transcendental connection of mind and nature compel the imaginative scenes illustrated in my work. These landscapes unknowingly leave behind a history for me, as an artist, to discover.”
